Sadio Mane scored twice as champions Liverpool beat 10-man Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to make it six points out of six at the start of this season's Premier League.

Chelsea had Andreas Christensen sent off just before half-time and Mane made them pay with two early second-half goals.

Thiago Alcantara impressed on his debut as a second-half substitute but gave away a penalty and was thankful to see Alisson save from Jorginho as Liverpool ran out comfortable winners.

Son Heung Min scored four goals for the first time in his career as Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to win 5-2 at Southampton while Brighton won 3-0 at Newcastle.

Liverpool's Mane was fouled for the sending-off, scored the first goal with a header and then reacted quickly to intercept goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's attempted clearance and score the second.

Liverpool are one of four teams with maximum points, joining Everton, Arsenal and Crystal Palace at the top.

Juergen Klopp's side dominated the first half but it took the sending-off of Christensen, for hauling down Mane, to open up the game.

Five minutes into the second half, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah combined to cross for Mane, who headed the ball into the corner.

Four minutes later, Mane pressured the error-prone Chelsea goalkeeper and took advantage when his pass out was under-hit to roll the ball in for the second.

Chelsea had a golden chance to pull one back when new Liverpool signing Thiago, on as a second-half substitute, clipped Timo Werner but Jorginho's spot-kick was saved by Alisson.

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago played several sublime passes to show his value and Mane said he was delighted to have him in his team.

Spurs fell behind to a 32nd-minute Danny Ings goal at Southampton but Son turned the match on its head with four goals as his side ran out 5-2 winners.

All four Son goals were set up by Harry Kane and the England captain scored the fifth as Tottenham picked up their first points of the season.

Neal Maupay scored twice in the first seven minutes, including one penalty, while Aaron Connolly got the other as Brighton won 3-0 at Newcastle to get off the mark.

Brighton's Yves Bissouma was sent off just before the end for dangerous play as his attempted overhead kick caught Jamal Lewis in the face.

Harvey Barnes, Erik Pieters (own goal), James Justin and Dennis Praet scored the goals as Leicester beat Burnley 4-2 in the late match.
