Grab your paint and pens because entries are now open for the 2020 City of Busselton Art Award.

First prize is $10,000 and a solo exhibition in the ArtGeo Gallery.

Past winners include Kay Gibson, Lee Harrop and Marina Troitsky.

Prizes are also awarded for best emerging artist, highly commended, and people’s choice, which is chosen by visitors to the gallery voting for their favourite piece.

ArtGeo co-ordinator John Reid said this year would see the introduction of a new format.

“While we are continuing the successful model from the past, for the first time the City has chosen to extend the show into the entire ArtGeo Cultural Complex,” he said.

“The juried Art Award will be shown in the ArtGeo Gallery, while an additional showcase of skills will be exhibited in the Old Courthouse. The extended show will enable artists and visitors to further appreciate the depth of talent from Western Australian artists.”

ArtGeo Gallery curator Sharon Williams, said the community was invited to join the artists at a free celebratory event in the Cultural Precinct on Friday, December 4 from 6pm to hear the award announcements.

“Now in its 13th year, the art award was established in 2008 when the ArtGeo Gallery opened in the heritage-listed building originally built for the Agricultural Bank of WA in 1931,” she said.

The City of Busselton Art Award is open to artists living in WA working in any medium or subject. Nominations close at 4pm on October 16. To enter, visit artgeo.com.au
