Fremantle ruckman Sean Darcy could be examined by the Match Review Officer after an attempted shepherd led to a head clash that sent Aaron Naughton to hospital.

The incident happened late in the second term of the Dockers’ clash with the Western Bulldogs in Cairns, with Darcy looking to protect teammate Ethan Hughes after dishing off a handpass.

Darcy’s head collided with Naughton’s head, with both players left sore and the Bulldog left reeling as he headed to the boundary line.

Naughton failed to take any further part in the match, with the Bulldogs confirming he had been sent to hospital for precautionary head scans.

While the head clash was accidental, the fact Naughton couldn’t return to the action may spell trouble for Darcy, with the outcome a large part of recent MRO decisions if a player elects to bump.

It came amid a thrilling battle between Darcy and WA product Tim English for ruck supremacy as the Dockers chase a win to close out their season.

The Bulldogs eked out a 7.4 (46) to 5.4 (34) half-time lead, needing to win to secure a finals berth.

The Bulldogs will travel to Perth to play West Coast in an elimination final if they win and Collingwood upset Port Adelaide tomorrow night.
