ASX-listed gold explorer, Kairos Minerals, is on the trail of two new gold anomalies with an extensive footprint that it has sniffed out at the wholly-owned Skywell project about 70km south-west of the exciting Hemi gold discovery as part of its overarching Pilbara gold projects hub.
The Perth-based company says the long anomalous gold targets, which are in a similar setting to where previous rock chip samples returned gold grades of up to 12.9 grams per tonne, were identified by its recent first-pass soil geochemical sampling program, together with an interpretation of data from a recently completed aeromagnetic survey.
The Kepler and Akari prospects extend about 6km and 4km respectively, and according to Kairos, Kepler is prospective for intrusion-related gold mineralisation similar to the Hemi discovery.
The systematic soil geochemistry program across our key Pilbara gold project target areas is continuing to generate further gold targets. The delineation of these two large, robust gold targets at the Skywell project follows the gold targets reported last week at our Kangan project, just 20km from the Hemi discovery.
The two large (Kepler and Akari) anomalies … are characterised by robust gold values in the Ultrafine+ soil sampling program and sit in highly prospective geological positions coincident with important regional structures and strong geophysical features. The 6km-long Kepler prospect is also located in similar setting to where we reported very high-grade results from previous rock chip sampling.
Kairos continues to generate a pipeline of targets at the flagship Pilbara gold projects hub about 100km south of Port Hedland that it says has the potential to host intrusion-related gold mineralisation similar to De Grey Mining’s Hemi discovery.
Although the treasure chest of prospects will not all be drill-tested this year, the company intends advancing several of them with follow-up infill geochemical sampling, mapping and additional fieldwork.
Aircore drilling at the strongest and most significant gold anomalies at Kangan and Skywell will however get a guernsey this year.
In addition, preparations have been completed for a round of drilling designed to chase extensions to the historic Mt York deposit as RC drilling winds down at the exciting greenfields Fuego prospect. Assay results for Fuego are pending.
Since its purchase of the Pilbara project in 2016 Kairos has lifted the inferred and indicated resource at Mt York and the smaller nearby Iron Stirrup and Old Faithful deposits to 20.93 million tonnes grading 1.3 grams per tonne for 873,000 ounces of contained gold.
The Mt York deposit forms part of the previously known resources within the historic Lynas Find gold mining operation, which produced approximately 125,000oz of gold from several shallow open pits between 1994 and 1998.
